A dental bridge is a fixed (non-removable) multiple crowns that is an excellent way to replace one or few missing teeth. Dental bridges are very successful restorations and have been used in the dental field for over a hundred years.
A bridge procedure usually requires three appointments. Your first appointment will include teeth preparation and shaping and constructing a provisional (temporary) bridge. This is followed by making highly accurate molds (impressions) and will be used to create your custom bridge. Your bridge will be precisely fitted to your teeth and permanently cemented with special bonding agent.
The “traditional bridge” is the most popular type and is made of porcelain fused to gold. This type of bridge consists to two crowns that go over anchoring teeth (abutment teeth) and are attached to Pontics (artificial teeth), filling the gap created by one or more missing teeth.
Dental bridges are highly durable and will last many years, however they may need replacement or need to be re-cemented due to normal wear. The average life span of conventional bridges is around 12-15 years. Regular maintenance and check-ups enhances the life span of your bridges.
A daily routine of brushing and special floss “super-floss” will keep the bridge and surrounding teeth clean. This is of critical importance since the bridge relies on the neighboring teeth for support and requires additional care
