Crowns and Bridges

Los Angeles Dental Crown

Crowns “caps” are functional and cosmetic restorations used to improve the shape of your tooth or to strengthen a tooth.

Crowns are most often used for teeth that are broken down, worn, or have large portions destroyed by tooth decay. Crowns are “caps” cemented onto an existing tooth, which fully cover the portion of your tooth above the gum line.  In effect, the crown becomes your tooth’s new outer surface.

Crowns can be made of porcelain, gold, or combination of both.

crowns

  • Ceramic crowns are most often preferred on the front teeth because they mimic the translucency of natural teeth and are very strong for that purpose.
  • Porcelain crowns describes a porcelain crown with a gold substrate.  The gold substrate adds significant strength to the porcelain and they are preferred on the back teeth.  Porcelain crowns have proven outstanding durability and also provide you with a very natural looking crown and functionality.
  • Gold crowns are the most durable but lack the natural aesthetics of porcelain.  Some patients prefer them on the back teeth for more durability.

Crowns are often preferred to silver amalgam fillings for the clean natural look they provide.

Crowns are fabricated in the dental laboratory, by highly skilled professionals. Your crown is constructed from a unique tooth impression, which allows a dental laboratory technician to address and examine all aspects of your bite and jaw movements.  Your crown is then sculpted just for you so that your bite and jaw movements function normally when the crown is permanently placed.

We offer ceramic, porcelain and gold crowns depending on your aesthetic and functional needs.

Bridges are multiple connected crowns that are used to replace one or more missing natural teeth.

The term “dental bridge” is often mistaken with “false teeth dentures”.  On the contrary, a dental bridge is permanent and fixed to your natural teeth just like crowns are.  They serve to replace one or several missing natural teeth.  Missing natural teeth usually lead to shifting of the surrounding teeth.  Bridges are a classic treatment that has been used for more than a century with outstanding long-tem success.  For those who are not candidates for dental implant treatments, a dental bridge may be the ideal solution.
